Houston Vacation: Boo at the Zoo (10/22/10)

Lily was feeling okay on Friday morning so we kept our plans to head to the Houston Zoo. Michael was already planning to stay home from school and come with us but it was a good thing that he didn’t go to school because he was feeling pretty rough from his baseball to the face. He took some of his pain medications at night and again in the morning so he was feeling pretty loopy at the zoo. Poor guy!
There was a Boo at the Zoo Halloween event going on:

There was also a dinosaur event. Lily loves dinosaurs and was so excited to sit on this one:

I loved all of the Halloween decorations, especially these Kiss pumpkins:

Lily was so excited to see real elephants:

She couldn’t tear her eyes away from them:

We got to the Halloween event area so I put Lily in her bee costume and we headed in:

Lily picked out this pumpkin to decorate:

Painting her pumpkin:

Poor Lily got really hot in her costume after only a few minutes and started pulling at it saying, “off, off.” I took it off of her and she was drenched with sweat underneath. Poor baby! I changed her into a lighter outfit then we headed off to see the rest of the animals.
Lily really liked these crazy cows:

Lily enjoyed balancing her new pumpkin on Paul’s head. She was so proud of her pumpkin and thought the act was hysterically funny:

The big cats were lazily lying around in the heat:

Michael and Lily checking out a mini totem pole:

My cutie meowing at the cats:

A snoozing ocelot:

An adorable hooded merganser swam by us as we were eating lunch:

I love flamingos, just not in people’s yards:

Silly Lily dancing around with some leaves:

Looking at a giant bird statue with Aunt Jodi:

Lily feeding her leaf to the bird:

Jellyfish:

Just keep swimming:

More glowing jellyfish:

Back on the dinosaur:

Lily riding a rhino:

Running to see more animals:

Lily watching the crocodile sleep:

My sweet girl offered it her leaf to eat:

Lily and I with a canebrake rattlesnake, ick:

Looking at some crazy looking waxy monkey tree frogs:

There were Halloween decorations everywhere:

Lily and I waiting for the sea lion show to begin (and sweating our butts off):

Lily liked watching their tricks:

The reflection pool:

A group of primates:

My adorable little girl:

Looking at the orangutans with mama:

Even the baby orangutan was in the Halloween spirit:

Lily and I posing by a giant candy corn:

After leaving the zoo, we headed over to the Kinder Station to ride the train. Two trains in two days, Lily was in heaven:

When we got home, Paul and Mike made a baseball bat on Mike’s lathe:

We all had fun at the zoo and it was a great thing to do together on our last full day in Houston. Lily was in great spirits and was fever-free all day thanks to Motrin. She loved seeing the animals but only got a very brief nap in the car on the way to the zoo. We were all wiped out afterward from the heat and dozed off on the way home. The only people who stayed awake were Mike (the driver, thank goodness) and Lily. I was shocked that she did not nap at all. She did, however, go to bed really early at 7pm before I could get any dinner in her but then woke up at midnight wide awake and raring to go. She ate dinner at that point and stayed up with Paul and Mike who were chatting outside until about 2am. I was worried with her being so off of her sleep schedule but she fell asleep at 2am without any trouble. We have a big day of packing and travel ahead of us tomorrow.
