Happy Halloween (10/31/10)

Lily didn’t go trick-or-treating for Halloween last year since she was too little. This year I tried to prep her for the event early by watching TV shows, reading books, and talking about it a lot since going to strangers’ houses and asking for candy is an odd concept. Lily loved to practice yelling, “trick or treat!” She was very excited about Halloween, especially since she recently discovered how much she likes candy. She had her candy bucket in hand and was ready and raring to go on Halloween morning:

Lily hardly ever relaxes in her pink Dora chair in a traditional manner:

We carved our pumpkins early in the afternoon. Here is Lily with her kitty pumpkin. We chose to carve her a cat because she loves to say “cat meow”:

Here is Lily with her pumpkin last year. Same binkie, much tinier baby:

Paul attempted to pose with his pumpkin while Lily brought him a baby pumpkin:

All ready for Halloween night. We’re a swarm!:

I took Lily out trick-or-treating in her wagon while Paul stayed behind to hand out candy at our house. Here we are heading out:

Our first stop was Matt and Amy’s house. Lily was squirming with excitement:

On to more houses:
Lily absolutely loved trick-or-treating. It was funny because she excitedly said, “trick or treat,” on her way up to each house but then was too shy to say it once people opened their doors. She carried her bucket on her own the entire time even though it got quite heavy as the night wore on. She held it out for candy each time or took candy from people’s dishes all by herself and never needed my help. She spent all night counting her candy as people would tell her she could take 1 or 2 then she would continue counting until 10 over and over. We ended up going to every house in the neighborhood and the only time Lily fussed and cried was when I told her that we were out of houses and had to go home. She had a blast and didn’t want the fun to end! When we got home, Paul was miserly doling out what he thought was the last of our candy because he didn’t realize that we had another huge bag of candy on top of the fridge. I poured it into our candy dish and left the room to throw away the bag .When I came back, Lily was handful by giant handful, transferring our candy into her bucket until it was overflowing. It was hilarious to watch. It was a great Halloween!
