Lily's 41st Week (12/7/09 – 12/13/09)

I thought that Lily was getting over her cold but she had a really rough time on Sunday night. She was up most of the night crying. She was acting like her stomach hurt which may have been due to drainage. Paul and I took turns comforting her so he got about three hours of sleep and I got about two. We were both very exhausted all day Monday. Paul had to leave early to take Lily to Auriel’s house because Kirsten was sick. I worked at the Brighton Health Care Center. Since I didn’t have to pick Lily up after work, I finally did some Christmas shopping even though what I really wanted to do was to go home and take a nap. At least Lily got some sleep as she took three naps at Auriel’s house and woke up in good spirits. I was very glad to hear that she had a good day after such a rough night. After dinner, I got our holiday letter written and half of our Christmas cards done.

Lily went to Auriel’s again on Tuesday because Kirsten was still sick. Lily seemed to finally be getting over her cold but I started coming down with it instead. It seems to be making its way around the house as it all started with Rachel after she returned from South Carolina, then passed to Lily, and then me. Even Paul started feeling a little congested. I finally finished all of our Christmas cards and got them mailed out on Tuesday evening.

Kirsten was finally feeling better so Lily went back to her house on Wednesday. We had a really busy night which got a late start because I had to stay 45 minutes past my shift at work. Paul had to get his license plates renewed and I had to do some Christmas shopping at Kohl’s so he picked up Rachel and we all met up at Mancino’s for dinner afterward. Lily absolutely loved the shredded turkey from my grinder. When we got home, I was up until 1am cleaning the house because we were having company over the next day. I really miss having my mom clean the house as I just do not have the time. My head was really stuffy all night and I was exhausted from missing so much sleep all week.

Thursday was Rachel’s winter orchestra concert. Paul and I got out of work 45 minutes early so that he could take Rachel up to the school and I could get Lily ready. My parents met us at our house then drove with me to the concert where Paul was holding seats for us. This time it was just the Navigator and Pathfinder Orchestras, not the High School. The concert was really good. I am amazed at the progress the kids are making. Lily really enjoyed it again. I was glad that the family that sat in front of us were such good sports as Lily threw her toys at them a couple of times and grabbed the guy’s ear before I knew what she was doing. They had a toddler so they were very understanding. I posted the concert on YouTube again. I apologize in advance for the videography work. Paul did most of the recording but someone kept kicking or kneeing him in the back of the head sending the camera all over the place. I recorded the last song which I think looks the best with the exception of a few jitters. Unfortunately, the family in front of us stood up to let some people into their row which blocked my view for a while.

The first song they performed is Song of the Wind Medley. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwduGMTKgZ0
The second link consists of their next three songs: Allegro & Perpetual Motion Medley, New World Symphony Theme, and D String Boogie. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSPhhIld_Js
Their last song was Christmas Medley. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z03PhphWINM
After the concert, we all came back to our house for cupcakes and ice cream to celebrate.

By Friday, we were all exhausted, even Lily. She crashed early at 8pm and all of us went to bed when she did. On Saturday morning, we did some things around the house then my Uncle Lee and Aunt Robin came over to baby-sit the kids while Paul and I went on our first date since Meghan’s wedding this summer. We did some Christmas shopping around Ann Arbor then went to dinner at Red Lobster to celebrate our very belated anniversary. We used a gift card given to us by my parents as an anniversary present way back in October. I think that my aunt and uncle were disappointed that we came back fairly early. They were apparently having a lot of fun with Rachel and Lily. We didn’t want to abuse their generosity and keep them out late, though. We were very grateful to them for volunteering their babysitting services and giving us a reprieve from the kids for a nice, quiet dinner.

My parents came over a little before noon on Sunday. My dad and Paul watched Lily and Rachel while my mom and I did some Christmas shopping. While we shopped, my dad installed magnetic drawer locks on the end tables in the living room as Lily has been trying to pull up using the handles and keeps nearly whacking herself in the head yanking open the drawers. Apparently these are the best type of drawer locks as they don’t break like our other ones are already doing. Unfortunately, they were a huge pain in the butt to install. My mom and I had a very successful shopping trip for each other and an enjoyable time together. When we got home, we all went out to dinner at Zukey Lake Tavern to celebrate Paul’s birthday. Then we went home where Paul opened his birthday presents and Rachel opened her Christmas presents from my parents. I always make Paul an awesome birthday cake. One year he had a green eyeball cake and once he had an exploding volcano cake. This year, I found the dessert recipe and Rachel made it on her own with just a little supervision from my dad while I was out shopping. It was homemade banana and chocolate chip cupcakes decorated as monkeys with a cut cookie as the face, mini M&Ms as the eyeballs, and mini Oreos as the ears. She did a really good job and they turned out awesome. Paul was quite impressed as he was not allowed in the kitchen while the masterpieces were being created. Unfortunately, Rachel took a little too much pride in her work and couldn’t bring herself to eat one of her creations!

Here are some pictures from this week.

Lily is always way more interested in the wheels on her xylophone than the musical part:

She actually flipped it over and used it correctly:

Hmmm, this looks like a good book:

Our Christmas Card and Letter (12/08/09)

I finally got our holiday cards put together and in the mail! I wanted to post a copy here as well.

Happy Holidays!

This has been a quite a year for us. Our lives were filled with joy at 7:30pm on Sunday, March 1st with the birth of our daughter, Lilia Christine Rysso. After 48 hours of induced labor and a cesarean section, Lily finally decided to grace us with her presence. She weighed 7 lbs 12 oz and was 20.5 inches long at birth. On the same weekend that Lily was born, Rachel came to live with us on a more full-time basis. We originally planned to have her move back on March 1st so that the baby would already be born and both of us would be home to help ease her transition. Little did we know that Lily would be 10 days late and that Kelly would be giving birth when Rachel arrived! Thank God for our families who were wonderfully helpful during that crazy weekend.

After Lily was born, Paul took two weeks of vacation to stay home with the family. Kelly got eight weeks of maternity leave then took an extra week of vacation to stay home a total of nine wonderful weeks with Lily. It was heartbreaking for her to return to work but financially necessary. In this economy, she was thankful to have a job to return to! Fortunately, we found a wonderful babysitter who lives five minutes from our house and is actually Paul’s old friend from college. Kirsten has two kids in elementary school so Lily receives her undivided attention for most of the day. It is such a relief to know that our baby is in good hands. We feel very blessed that Kirsten came back into our lives. She is a wonderful sitter and has become a really good friend as well.

Rachel adjusted well to Pinckney Navigator Middle School. It was difficult for her to change schools near the end of the school year and adjust to a middle-school format of changing classes throughout the day but she did so with a grace and adaptability that amazed us. She spent the first half of her summer break with her mom in South Carolina (she moved there from New York at the end of the spring) then returned home the day before our annual week-long vacation to Higgins Lake. We let her bring a friend on vacation for the first time. She and Katelyn had a blast while we enjoyed a relaxing week with my parents. It was wonderful to spend an entire week with Lily and we think that she enjoyed her first trip to the cabin. After vacation, Rachel attended summer camp for a few weeks with Katelyn then went on vacation to South Dakota with Paul’s parents. She had a lot of fun. Now she is in 6th grade at Navigator where she has really found her niche. She joined the orchestra and absolutely loves playing the violin. It is amazing to see her learn the instrument and Lily loves to listen to her play. Rachel spent Thanksgiving at her mom’s house and will return there for Christmas. We miss her on the holidays but are glad to be able to spend so much time with her during the school year. Lily adores her big sister. She giggles and smiles every time she sees Rachel.

Our lives are pretty hectic just trying to keep up with Rachel and Lily so we didn’t do any big projects this year. Lily was our home improvement project! We are grateful to have received a lot of help around the house from Kelly’s parents as it would probably be a disaster zone without them. Our projects have all been put on the back burner as we spend all of our spare time enjoying our wonderful little baby. It is such a joy to see her grow and change. Every day with her is full of new discoveries and she is truly a blessing. She is now crawling everywhere, pulling up constantly, and can take a few steps holding on to something. She is a very happy and smiley baby and we just love her to pieces.

We hope that this letter finds you healthy and happy. Keep in touch! For weekly updates and tons of pictures, you can visit us at http://kellyrysso.blogspot.com/ (HERE!). You can also keep up with us at http://www.rysso.com/, if Kelly can ever find the time to update the site.

Best wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Love,
Kelly, Paul, Rachel, and Lily

Lily's Professional 9 Month Photos (12/6/09)

Here are Lily's nine month pictures. We also got some family shots for our Christmas card. Lily had a bad cold so we kept having to take breaks to wipe her nose. She was smiley despite being under the weather and took some cute pictures.

I love her chubby cheeks:

And, of course, her big happy smile:
