Houston Vacation: Baseball Players and Other Animals (10/20/10)

We went to Michael’s baseball game on Wednesday evening. It was held in a huge park with a bunch of baseball diamonds, a big playground, and a large walking trail that goes past a mini-zoo. Michael had to be there early to practice so we took Lily on the walking trail to see all of the animals.
One of the scary animals that may charge the fence. Oh wait, that’s Paul:

This turkey kept gobbling at Lily. She thought it was hysterical:

Lily loved petting this “hee-haw”:

And liked “baaa-ing” at these goats:

After looking at all of the animals, we took Lily to the playground. She loves swinging:

She really wanted to play on the slide but she was too sweaty and sticky to go down:

Adorable Jodee and her mom watching Michael’s game:

I couldn’t take a word Mike was saying seriously that night due to his ‘Heat Miser’ hairdo:

Lily got fussy at the game but again, I thought it was because it was late when factoring in the time change. She’d also been flush for the past two days but I thought that it was due to the heat. She went to sleep with ease when we got home from the game but woke up crying inconsolably soon afterward. She seemed really hot despite the air conditioning so I took her temperature and it was 100. I gave her Motrin and she finally fell asleep on the bed with me. I really really really hope she isn’t getting sick on vacation. Ugh!

Houston Vacation: Lily’s First Trip to the Ocean (10/19/10)

On Tuesday we went to the beach near Galveston to collect shells. This was Lily’s first trip to the ocean! We thought it would be cold and windy at the shore but instead it was super hot and completely still. We were sweating our butts off. I wish I would have brought our swimsuits instead of sweatshirts!
Lily loved the swings at the beach playground:

Lily liked the beach and loved the shells:

Lily and Aunt Jodi:

Collecting more shells:

Lily was interested in wading into the water but was trepidatious about the tide:

Sorting shells with Aunt Jodi:

All of the beach houses were on stilts:

Lots of pelicans in the water:

Lily loved this fish that Uncle Mike caught. It is called a “piggy perch” because it makes this crazy oinking noise when it is out of the water. It was so crazy:

Lily sat and played with shells for a long time:

Mike fishing:

Lily and I at the ocean (she refused to put down the Teddy Grahams for the picture, oh well):

The obligatory seagulls:

There was a large school of minnows in the water that a flock of terns kept diving for. It was very interesting to watch:

The jetty:

Lily playing in the surf:

Snacking on an apple on a large piece of granite that used to be a part of the jetty before Hurricane Ike displaced it onto the beach:

Lily wrote her name in the sand! Okay, it was really me:

She really loved playing with the stick:

We picked up Michael from school on our way home from the beach. When we got back to Mike and Jodi’s house, Lily wanted to go for a ride in the laundry basket:

Grace is strong!:
