Father's Day (6/21/09)

Last Father’s Day was the day I found out I was finally pregnant so spending this Father’s Day with our beautiful baby was extra special. We started the day with brunch at Zukey Lake Tavern then went to Target. My mom came over from Davison then my dad arrived from a conference in Lansing. Here is Lily in a cute bonnet that my mom made her:

My mom and I made dinner for everyone. It was super hot out so we tried to turn on the air conditioner but it fired up then immediately died. I was so-o not happy. Lily did not enjoy the heat so she spent most of the day in her diaper. She started a new cute trick today which shows a lot of hand-eye coordination. She would take her pacifier out of her mouth, extend her arm all the way out, then bring it back to her mouth and put it back in. It was very cute. Here is her playing with her pacifier in her diaper:

She is unhappy about the heat in her Bumbo:

She got a little happier when I put the fan on her:

We ended up eating dinner out on the patio where there was at least a bit of a breeze. After dinner we had strawberry shortcake and presents.
Here is Lily with Papi Tim in her "I Love Grandpa" bib:

Now here she is with Paul in her "I Love Daddy" bib:

Lily fought sleep like a champ and would not lay back on me but she lost the battle and fell asleep sitting up on my lap:

We put the bonnet on to protect her head from the sun:

It was a lovely night. We missed not having Rachel there as the family was incomplete on Father's Day but we did talk to her on the phone.

Hamburg Family Fun Fest (6/20/09)

Saturday was a beautiful but hot day. I cleaned the house in the morning while Paul and Lily hung out. Here is her looking cute in her diaper then getting into a jumper to go for a walk in the woods.

That afternoon, we left to go to the Hamburg Family Fun Fest. Lily was hamming it up when I put her in her carseat.

We toured around the classic car show, craft booths, and petting zoo. They had a crazy looking llama or alpaca (I can never tell them apart) and some exotic animals.

We wandered through the midway but it was kind of sad being there without Rachel. A lot cheaper, but sad. Since we didn't have Rachel there to ride the rides and Lily is a bit young, we didn't have a lot to do. We talked with our neighbor for a while, I had an elephant ear (a carnival MUST), then we decided to leave and come back later for the fireworks. We went to Zukey Lake Tavern for a late lunch and I bought my dad a Father's Day present there.

With her wrist rattle, Pooh rattle, and carseat toy, I title this one "overstimulation".

We went home for a few hours then returned to the festival around 9pm. We got more delicious but non-nutritious carnival food then set up to watch the fireworks. Lily was fascinated by all the hustle and bustle around us. There were people selling all this glow in the dark stuff and kids walking around wearing it and playing with it which she kept watching intently. After dusk fell, they first had a laser light show with music which Lily enjoyed watching as well. She is so alert and inquisitive.
Here she is playing on the blanket waiting for the fireworks to start.

Right as the fireworks were starting, Lily had a giant diaper blowout that ruined her cute Pooh jumper so we had to change her diaper and clothes by flashlight. That was not easy! We were worried that Lily would hate the noise of the fireworks but she absolutely loved it all. The fireworks made her jump a little but she watched them in fascination.

Then she actually fell asleep and slept through the grand finale! I was afraid she had suddenly developed a hearing problem, but then when the fireworks ended, everyone started clapping which startled her awake. It was funny because the clapping was a lot quieter than the fireworks were!

She stayed awake for the car ride home and was up until almost midnight. Even though I am sure she was tired, she was in a wonderful mood and was very chatty.

Here is a video of her laughing and talking taken right after we got home. I think she was discussing what a fun day she had!

Lily's 16th Week (6/15/09 - 6/21/09)

This was a fairly routine week. Paul worked outside in the yard a lot so Lily and I played inside. She loves walking around the yard so we tried to visit him a lot but the mosquitoes are vicious, even before dusk, so our time outside was limited. It seems like she has grown a lot this week. She appears bigger every time I pick her up from Kirsten's. She was in Newborn size clothes for the first two months of her life. She was in 0-3 Month size for her second month of life. After only one month in that size, she jumped into 3-6 Month size. Now she is almost four months old and she is outgrowing her current size quickly. She can wear the 3-6 Month size onesies and dresses fine but apparently she has long legs because the pants look like capris and she cannot fit into the jumpers at all. Maybe it's all the heat that is making her grow! It grew increasingly hotter as the week progressed and apparently Lily is not a fan of the heat. She is now sitting up on her own for short periods of time and greatly prefers sitting up to laying down. She gets tired pretty quickly in the sitting position so I need to support her. She can reach forward pretty well but topples if she turns her head to the side.

On Friday evening, we wanted to go to the Hamburg Family Fun Fest and see the fireworks. We were going to meet Kirsten's family and neighbors there but right before we left the house, it started storming out and didn't stop all night. We kept waiting for the storm to blow over but finally went to bed at 10pm when it still hadn't stopped. Needless to say, the fireworks were canceled anyway. Instead we went to the Hamburg Family Fun Fest on Saturday. That day and Sunday (Father's Day) are separate posts due to the fact that they have a lot of pictures to go with them.

Here are some pictures from this week.
